Choose a quiet space where you will experience little interruption to begin guided meditation relaxation. This is important in the beginning stages of meditation practice. As you become more familiar with meditation, you may play with meditating with distractions in the area. This is similar to lifting weights in which one goes to heavier weights as the muscles are toned.
The traditional position is the lotus polition, in which one sits, crossing the legs with each ankle on the opposite leg.
Right and wrong don’t exist in the method, but the goal is to pay attention to quieting the mind and paying attention to the number of disconnected and odd thoughts that race through the mind continually. After you are comfortable the simplest technique is to begin watching the inhalation and exhalation of the breath.
After this process has become comfortable and your mind is fairly under your control, you can start a guided meditation relaxation. Many exist, all of which are valuable in their own right. One guided meditation that is fascinating and can provide perspective to your life is counting backward.
By this I mean, after your mind has stopped wandering and you are peaceful, start at your age and bring up your life situation today, and the emotional feel to the year. Don’t assign good or bad, just watch as a movie-goer may watch a movie.
Peak around the nooks and crannies of this year until you have gained a feel for your age now. Then, go to your previous year. Do the same thing. Then on to the next year, and continue until you reach age 1, birth, and before that.
By the time you get to age 5 or so, your remembrance will be closer to a dream time, but stay with that. This will take you into wonderful, explored areas of your being.
After getting to birth and before, you may drift into a meditation of your physical spot in the current time, and then drift off to your position in your house, thn on your street, then in your town, county, state, location in your country, your country, the Earth, the Galaxy, and on it goes. Keep as your reference point your physical place in the here and now, while also drifting into these other areas of space and time.
When you can do this without judgment, the resulting relaxation can be extraordinary. The perspective gained on your life will surprise you.
